BEDC Electricity Plc has announced the promotion and step-upgrade of 1,101 staff across various cadres following the completion of its 2024 performance appraisal the company’s largest reward exercise in recent years.

Head of Human Capital Management, Dr. Obinna Obi, described the development as a major milestone under the leadership of the Ag. MD/CEO, Engr. Jonathan Lawani, who approved the merit-driven exercise to reinforce BEDC’s commitment to performance recognition.

According to Dr. Obi, over 1,000 employees earned promotions or step rewards after a rigorous review process based on clearly defined criteria. He also noted that 15 staff who fell below expectations have been placed on a Performance Improvement Plan (PIP) to support their turnaround and alignment with company standards.

He emphasized that the process was strictly merit-based and encouraged employees to continue demonstrating excellence as the 2025 appraisal begins in December 2025.

With two months left in the 2025 business cycle, Dr. Obi urged staff to maximize the period for improved performance, noting that the outcomes of the 2024 appraisal clearly reflect management’s commitment to rewarding both positive and negative performance fairly.

He reminded the workforce that the performance-driven reward system was introduced by Engr. Lawani as part of efforts to reposition the company, adding that it is now up to staff to sustain momentum and help keep BEDC among the nation’s leading electricity distribution companies.
