Based on the new 2015 NERC approved tariff structure, find below key unique points explaining the implication of the new tariff regime that became effective from 1st February 2016.

1. Fixed charge removal- The Fixed charge component of the electricity bill has been abolished in response to call by the public for government to do so, meaning that customers are kings and winners.
2. There is an increase in energy charge across the classes of customers but as the new tariff rates show, customers will on the long run pay less as the rates decline steadily over a 10-year period.
3. The new regime has an expansion in sub category of classes implying that customers with lower earning power who could have been bunched with others with higher earning power are now provided for accordingly in the newly approved rates.
4. Consumers can indeed control what they pay as energy charge if they manage consumption and can really pay less on energy if they can switch off all appliances and lighting points when not in use;
5. BEDC will offer improved service but cannot guarantee increased supply which is beyond our control. Customers will get improved service in the areas of network upgrade to enable supplied power get to paying customers based on load management schedule, faster turnaround time for customer complaints resolution and aggressive metering to capture customers without meter and reduce estimated billing;
6. Prompt payment of bills enables BEDC to service customers across our coverage states of Edo, Delta, Ekiti and Ondo states.
